MERCOSUL: new rules for consumer protection

Decree nº 10.271/2020 provides for consumer protection in electronic commerce operations. The Decree was signed within the scope of the Mercosur Common Market Group and aims to deepen the harmonization of laws regarding consumer protection within the scope of Mercosur.

Among other provisions, the Decree establishes that the Mercosur States Parties, signatories to the commitment, will allow suppliers to adopt agile, fair, transparent, accessible and low-cost online dispute resolution mechanisms. This is expected to increase the demand for the use of the http://www.consumidor.gov.br  platform, which is already offered by the Brazilian Government.
