The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) established four working groups regarding the implementation of sustainable development commitments in agribusiness. They include initiatives on a domestic carbon market and the reduction of methane emissions.
The Commission for the Sustainable Development in Agribusiness (CSDA) at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) established four working groups designed to provide recommendations to the implementation of sustainable development commitments, including those recently established at the Glasgow’s 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (see more in the 29th edition of the Regulatory Report).
The following working groups were established:
- CSDA/MAPA Resolution nº 1/2021: Working group on the initiatives related to article 6 of the Paris Agreement, including a framework for a domestic carbon market;
- CSDA/MAPA Resolution nº 2/2021: Working group the initiatives on forest economy, conservation, and environmental recovery;
- CSDA/MAPA Resolution nº 3/2021: Working group on the implementation policies for the reduction of methane emissions in agriculture;
- CSDA/MAPA Resolution nº 4/2021: Working group on the implementation of mechanisms for the recognition of products originating from agribusiness properties free of illegal deforestation.
The working groups must submit their reports to CSDA in 60 days (the deadline may be postponed by 30 days). The CSDA was instituted by MAPA Ordinance n.º 90/2021.
