The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) revised the criteria and procedures for phytosanitary treatment for quarantine purposes applied to products of plant origin and other regulated articles.
The Secretariat for Agricultural Defense (SDA) at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), through Ordinance n.º 385/2021, revised the criteria and procedures for phytosanitary treatment for quarantine purposes applied to products of plant origin and other regulated articles. Its revision is intended to adhere to phytosanitary requirements agreed with other countries, concerning international phytosanitary certification and import and export inspection procedures, and according to MAPA, the traceability of applied treatments was expanded.
The regulatory framework on phytosanitary treatment for quarantine purposes provides inspection requirements in order to safeguard the Brazilian environment and agriculture against the introduction of pests and diseases. It also provides the requirements for the provision of phytosanitary treatment services, and for packaging manufactures to apply the IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) mark.
The ordinance revoked SDA Normative Instruction n.º 66/2006. Companies habilitated according to that normative instruction have a 180-day adaption period to comply with the new framework.
