The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Brazilian Energy Research Company (EPE) launched the 2050 National Energy Plan (PNE 2050, in the Portuguese acronym). It projects long-term scenarios in order to support energy policy making for the next 30 years, under five-year cycles of revision.

The 2050 National Energy Plan (PNE 2050, in the Portuguese acronym) was launched by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Brazilian Energy Research Company (EPE). Energy policy making for the next 30 years will be supported by its analysis and projections of economic growth, demand for energy and output potential.

PNE 2050 analyzes different scenarios regarding the post-pandemic recovery, and a five-year revision process – aimed at countering the increased uncertainty – was established in accordance with MME Ordinance n. 6/2020.

The plan succeeds the 2030 National Energy Plan, launched in 2007, and is built upon its long-term projections for the energy sector. PNE 2050 is also supported by the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE 2029, in the Portuguese acronym), launched in 2019.
