The National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) launched a public consultation on a new supervising mechanism intended to prevent potential abuses in Terminal Handling Charges (THC) demanded by shipowners at Brazilian port facilities. The initiative is part of ANTAQ’s 2020-2021 Regulatory Agenda.



Public Audience n. 11/2021, launched by the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ), seeks to collect public contributions on an amending proposal designed to implement a supervising mechanism against potential abuses related to Terminal Handling Charges (THC) charged by shipowners at Brazilian port facilities. The proposed resolution is designed to prevent abusive charges from trade agents, exporters, and importers.

The public consultation comprises ANTAQ’s 2020-2021 Regulatory Agenda (item 3.1), which can be monitored at this ANTAQ dashboard. The regulatory process related to that public consultation is expected to be concluded by the second quarter of 2022, according to ANTAQ.
