The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) submitted to public consultation, for a period of 60 days, a proposal revising three regulations on food contact materials, regarding packages and equipment made with authorized plastics and cellulose. ANVISA intends to improve health protection by lowering limits on BPA (bisphenol A) and by incorporating new internationally approved substances.
Public Consultation n. 897/2020 seeks to collect public contributions on an altering proposal of three regulations on food contact materials. These regulations are:
- Resolution n. 105/1999, which regulates general dispositions on packages and plastic equipment in contact with food;
- RDC n. 56/2012, which rules the approved list of authorized plastic substances that compose packages and plastic equipment in contact with food; and
- RDC n. 88/2016, which approves technical rules on materials, packages and equipment made with cellulose that are destined for contact with food.
Contributions can be submitted through an electronic form, available here (in Portuguese). Access to the proposal and more information on the public consultation are available here (in Portuguese).
