The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) updated its 2021-2022 Regulatory Agenda, covering the prioritized regulatory initiatives for the period. The update included new initiatives and removed others that were already concluded before the end of 2020.



The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL), through Ordinance n. 6.665/2021, updated its Regulatory Agenda for the 2021-2022 period, covering the planned regulatory initiatives scheduled to improve ANEEL’s regulatory framework. The updated version can be found in the new resolution’s Annex.

According to ANEEL, the update included new activities related to work and installation safety, regulatory accounting, and improvements to the Energy Reallocation Mechanism (MRE, in the Portuguese acronym). Additionally, the update removed activities concluded after the agenda was first enacted, but before the end of 2020, such as the initiative concluded through Normative Resolution n. 907/2020.

As reported in the 19th edition of the Regulatory Report, ANEEL’s Regulatory Agenda is comprised of nine strategic themes, whose initiatives are classified as ordinary or priority. Differently from that report, the agenda is now comprised of 138 activities, organized as follows:

  • Generation – 27 activities;
  • Transmission – 26 activities;
  • Commercialization and Market – 23 activities;
  • Electric Energy sector’s Financial and Accounting Regulations – 19 activities;
  • Distribution – 17 activities;
  • Sector or cross-sector framework – 10 activities;
  • Tariff – eight activities;
  • Research and Development and Energy Efficiency – five activities;
  • ANEEL internal organization – three activities.
