The Foreign Trade Chamber (CAMEX) at the Ministry of Economy updated the list of capital goods (BK) – GECEX Resolutions n.º 308/2022 and n.º 319/2022 – and computer and telecommunications goods (BIT) – GECEX Resolutions n.º 309/2022 and n.º 320/2022 – subject to the temporary exemption on import duties granted by the “ex-tariff” regime.

The “ex-tariff” regime establishes temporary exemption on import duties, applied by Mercosur’s Common External Tariff (TEC, in the Portuguese acronym), for approved products under the capital goods (BK) and computer and telecommunications goods (BIT) special tariff line classification.

The Foreign Trade Chamber (CAMEX) at the Ministry of Economy updated the list of approved BK products (GECEX Resolutions n.º 308/2022 and n.º 319/2022) and BIT products (GECEX Resolutions n.º 309/2022 and n.º 320/2022) comprising the “ex-tariff” regime. The system aims at boosting investments in BK and BIT products with no domestic equivalent, enabling the incorporation of technologies that do not exist in Brazil. The expected results are an increase in productivity and competitiveness and the multiplier effect of employment and income on several sectors of the Brazilian economy.

Note: the BK and BIT products included in the “ex-tariff” regime by the aforementioned resolutions, which comprise the “ex-tariff” GECEX Resolutions n.º 14/2020 and n.º 15/2020, are part of the CAMEX public consultation process that will determine the continuation of their beneficiary status under the “ex-tariff” regime as of May 2022 (more information in the 31st edition of the Regulatory Report).
